In the Moon's Shadow

Inspired by great grey owls. I titled this woodcut print edition, 'In the Moon's Shadow', because once the moon rises, owls are right behind it. Silent watchers, following the moon through the night. (Fun fact: great grey owls have the nickname "ghost of the forest" because they're so elusive and hard to spot).

To make, 'In the Moon's Shadow', I started with a pencil sketch on a piece of Shina Plywood. Then I used my carving tools to cut each detail into the wood by hand. I found the feathers of the owl to be really fun to carve! I carved meditatively, in the moment, slowly letting the artwork come to life, one cut at a time. After I finished carving the block, I rolled oil-based ink onto the raised surface (above my cut marks), and printed the block onto fine art paper.

I made three different color versions for this woodcut edition, there is a total of 96 prints (counting all the color versions). This edition is limited and will never be reprinted.

Hand inking techniques create unique prints, each one an original work of art. Colors vary during the printmaking process, photos are representative of the print you will receive.

This unframed woodcut print comes with an archival mat and backing board. Ready to frame in an 8"x10" frame (common frame sized, widely available). Frame not included.

Printed by hand on fine art recycled paper, with linseed oil relief ink.
