Tree Bark

Inspired by the texture of tree bark and the repeating patterns I felt compelled to create this new design. If you look up close to tree bark there is a whole other world within it, mostly little insects and bugs living unnoticed underneath the bark. This led my imagination to think about imposing another world onto the bark, and that's where the pnw inspired mountain peak and colorful sunset came into the picture. Taking up the place where a knot in a tree would be is this little peephole into another world.

To make, 'Tree Bark', I started with a sketch on a piece of printmaking linoleum. Then I used hand carving tools to cut each detail into the lino. Slowly the artwork came to life, one cut at a time. After I finished carving the block, I rolled linseed oil relief ink onto the raised surface (above my cut marks), and printed the block onto fine art recycled paper.

Hand inking techniques create unique prints, each one an original work of art. Colors vary during the printmaking process, photos are representative of the print you will receive.
